Mechanic's Hill Cemetery
Located on West Salisbury Street, Robbins, NC 27325
The Mechanic's Hill Cemetery is one of the oldest graveyards in Moore County. Although no marked gravestones remain, except those of Cornelius and John W. Shields, oblongs and depressions can be found of numerous graves. The late Dr. Shields estimated that one hundred graves or more were there. His daughter, Mrs. P.J. Melvin of Roseboro, gave the site to the Moore County Historical Association in 1976.
The large and impressive rock boulder on which is mounted a metal tablet listing the cemetery and nearby Mechanics Hill community, came from near Bethlehem Church. The stone was placed there through a special project of A.E. “Tony” Parker and Thurman D. Maness, two members of the Moore County Historical Association who have been tireless in their efforts to find and identify old graveyards.
The Mechanics Hill Cemetery is located on West Salisbury Street, to the left of the Woodmen of the World building. The Woodmen Hall is addressed at 250 West Salisbury Street in Robbins.
